We wanted something exotic, to ride a scooter among the rice fields, to be in a small hotel in the countryside. So we chose The Samara villas.
Only 6 rooms, all the same. A swimming pool, just a few meters away from the rice fields. We can access the hotel only by walking or on scooter.
The road ends to a path that leads you to the hotel, 300 meters further. This is where the cab dropped us and the staff came to us by scooter.
Then, complete change of scenery. Hard to believe that 3 minutes from there is the city centre of Ubud, with its noisy and polluting cars. Instead you have some chatting ducks, cricket songs and water along the rice fields. When the night is coming, by the swimming pool, you can watch some fireflies. Just magical.
Just one little issue (for David) : some lezards as big as an arm (I swear !)
The staff made our stay really perfect. We asked them where to find scooters, buy a map and raincoats. They took care of everything, the scooters were ready the next morning at 7am with the raincoats and the map.
Told you, it’s magical. So don’t wait to make a reservation !
Other useful information :
– Free wifi
– There is a walking path around the hotel, along the rice fileds and the forest
– The hotel lend you cellphones to contact them (for exemple, to call for the scooters)
– We didn’t try the hotel restaurant
– Price : Around 80 euros for one night for 2 people, breakfast included
Balineese room with private shower outside.
The swimming pool. We enjoy it even more after a sightseeing day, at night, with the fireflies.
Generous breakfast (indonesian or continental or american).
View from the terrace of the room.
Good value for money (if the prices didn’t change since January 2014), but will not be suitable for you if you want some night life or a kindergarten. We loved it there and are looking forward to go back.
