After more than 10 months without travelling, I (Audrey) needed some time away for luxury, peace and pleasure. And that’s exactly how I would describe Lux* hotel at le Morne in Mauritius.
First, the environement. Everything is set in a sort of romantic mood, the gardens are so nicely arranged and instagram-worthy. At night, some candles are scattered around and make the place looks like a fairy tale. And finally, the sunsets are one of the most beautiful ones we’ve ever seen.
If you are on your honeymoon or every 5 years anniversary, you can get really good deals and some gifts (cooking class, sparkling wine, cake…).
The room is delightful with a big bathroom. The hotel is not quite recent, but the furnitures are still very well maintained. Unfortunately though, the bed was not so comfy. Finally, they provide an ipad in the room to use for service directory or send messages to the reception, which is actually very convenient.
Buffet breakfasts and lunches have been tested and approved by David. Large choices and good quality. To fit their health conscious image, food is not too fat and they propose many vegetarian dishes. We didn’t try the thai restaurant, but we met the very friendly chef during the cooking class !
The place is well known among the kite surfers. But still, we were not bothered by the wind (maybe depends on the season ?). We have noticed less activities than in the nearby hotels. The customers here are clearly young couples and families who just want some peace and rest.
Lux* group is showing its commitment to reduce their ecological footprint in their hotels. And I was pretty aware of these details : glass water bottles, no disposable napkins or coasters, environement policy at the reception and in the welcome package letters, locally handmade bags and hats, recycle workshop.
All of these little extras (yoga sessions, ecological commitment, open air movie night, nice library, marshmallow on the beach) make the unique identity to Lux* Le Morne. This 5 stars hotel tries to be different from the other luxurious foolish and sensless hotels. Marketing strategy or not, we have been very sensitive to it and really loved our stay there. We would definetly go back to Lux* hotel for each of our wedding anniversary 😀
