The Oberoi is a 5* hotel in Balaclava, on the north west coast of Mauritius Island. What attracted us ? 20 acres of greenery, the sunset and the distance to Port-Louis and Grand-Baie.

When you arrive at the Oberoi hotel, you enter a different world : big trees in a beautiful garden, view on a waterfall while drinking (a very good) virgin mojito as a welcome cocktail. First “wow” effect !

Papers, formalities were handled a few days ago by email, so you don’t have anything else to do but to relax and admire the nice decor : bungalows, big gardens, two swimming pools, two restaurants and a magnificent view on the bay.

The second “wow” effect is for the room (deluxe pavilion). Very spacious with a nice view and some presents for our special occasion : embroidered slippers, Mauritian snacks, sparkling wine, chocolate cake. The bed is sooo comfy, and you can even choose the type of pillow you like before your arrival.

The service quality was above our expectations. When we came back from dinner (outside the hotel), we found our bathtub filled with warm water and rose petal and candles around. This was the third “wow” effect.

For breakfast, it was both buffet and à la carte. And it was also both generous and very good. The baobab honey and homemade yogurt were quite tasty.

The spa also deserves its 5 stars : luxurious decor, competent and thoughtful staff.

If we had to add some downsides to our stay, it would be the lack of activities during weekend, and the small beach. We would have enjoyed some activities like hindou ceremonie, stars observation, yoga…

But with this quality of service and their luxurious room, the OBEROI hotel fully deserves its 5 stars.

-the spa decor
-the big garden
-the amazing sunsets !

We liked less : 
-fewer activities in weekends
-non heated swimming pool (yes were are very sensitive to the cold !)
