In Reunion, we are lucky to have mountains, beaches, volcano, all of that on such a small island. You can also experience many activities like paragliding, canyoning, exploring lava tunnels etc… We (David) tested Quadbike with Quadbike Runners company, during a bachelor party / day.
What kind of Quadbike ?
It is simply a mix of quad and a bike, hence the pedals. In theory, nothing extraordinary. Actually, you have some really good sensations, and you can reach up to 80 km/h.
Many tours are proposed : Petite-île, les Makes, Trois Bassins, Volcano, East coast, Etang Salé. We chose the one in Trois Bassins, easier, with many downhills and a part where you can do some trial.
How was our day ?
We first met the guide near the Conservatoire botanique de Masacarin, in the highlands of St Leu (800 m of altitude). He took us in his truck up to 1600 m of altitude, on the road between Maido and Tevelave. We were lucky, the weather was perfect.
After somme coffee and croissant, he explained us how to drive the quadbikes and gave us some advices. We followed each other, first had some stops to make sure everything was okay.
We mainly had downhills but also a part where you drive on tree trunks. Nothing extraordinary, but I never thought we could do that with a quadbike.
As for the physical effort, don’t worry. Audrey tested before the track in Les Makes, without difficulties.
Is it worth it ?
Yes, it is ! You experience great sensations, and speed. Be careful though to respect the safety instructions (edit from Audrey : or else, you will get a scar like Kenshin, 5 days before a wedding, and will be scolded by your wife).
The price is around 60-70 euros for the whole morning. Bring your jacket, some water and a sunscreen.
Next time, we will try the track in Petite Ile, they say the arrival on the Grand Anse beach is beautiful.
Thank you Bertrand from QBR for everything !
